Give a nice name to the connection

Edit the connection properties. APN celcom.net.my is auto by the assistant. I Just leave it like that and it works.

Choose your connection.

.. and you are connected.

Previously I’m using wvdial as suggested in this blog and it is also works. The problem is that, it is not in ubuntu default installation,you need to install it first before you can use it. Well, it’s not really a problem since you still can install it in offline mode. (here is the way how to do it)

I already plan to fresh install my ubuntu once new version is out. That’s why I dare to test that powerfull command in my ubuntu box.

This morning, after my ubuntu Intreprid download completed I then happily burn the iso file to my empty cd, backup my stuff to to other drive and then happily run below command.

See, I’m not allowed to run that command. It’s suppose to be a warning for me not to do that.

Out of curiosity, I then add additional beautiful parameter –no-preserve-root

Ofter a few minutes running that command, I then realize something…oh my God. My other partition is mounted under /media directory. It’s mean that my C,D,E,F drive also included in my root and will be included to be removed….recursively with no mercy.

I then quickly close the terminal. Shut my pc off…stop doing anything..wondering….what will going to happen to my windows XP,my pictures,my data..my everything..Ya Allah..what I’m doing ….adoiiii…

I then start my pc..hoping that nothing happen…and..hmm..nope. Curiosity already killed my windows XP. I cannot boot to my windows XP.

Using my newly created Ubuntu Intrepid bootable CD, I then slowly open my 40GB Windows XP drive, and this is only what I have. Everything else have been removed.

Lucky my data in D,E and F drives still there.(hopefully lah…not yet to check all the files)

Well, maybe It’s time for me to test out data rocevery tools. Hopefully I can recover all my pictures. Other than that, I don’t care…

Hope you can learn some lesson here. I don’t know…you figure it out lah.

The fact is, I’m into Ubuntu now,hence I’m testing this on top of it. No worries if you are using other operating system,PDI is coded using Java so it’s by right platform independent

PDI 3.1 have support for 34 database types and a generic database connection for the others. It’s cool right. You can connect to almost all database in this universe.

If you are in ETL,DW,BI Industry, this is very good stuff to look into. I will definetly explore this tool in my FREE time.

Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock’ (2)

Well, it’s really temporary where the link file that I create previously gone missing whenever I restart my pc. I then need to run the command again and again. Until today I still can’t find the solution.

Here are my workaround for this problem.

It’s just a simple workaround where we just need to create a script and start it at bootup.

Write a simple script and put it in /etc/init.d/ directory.

Add up two line of below command in the script.

sudo mkdir /var/run/mysqld
sudo ln -s /opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

Once completed, run this command at terminal.

sudo chmod +x MyScriptName
sudo update-rc.d MyScriptName defaults
